‘Music is all around us. It is the soundtrack to our lives. Music connects us through people and places in our ever-changing world.’

Model Music Curriculum, 2021

At Highcliffe Primary we aim for all children to develop a life-long love of music. We have adopted the Sing Up Music scheme to support and improve the quality of music teaching that children receive at our school from the Early Years to Year 6. The Sing Up scheme has been designed and written by subject specialists. It is a progressive scheme which follows the suggested approaches of the Model Music Curriculum and covers a broad and diverse range of repertoire, approaches and musical traditions. It gives all children the opportunity to learn about music through the key strands of singing, playing, improvising, composing, listening and appraising.

Music is embedded in classroom activities in a range of subjects as well as singing assemblies, performances, the learning of instruments and the joining of our extra-curricular music activities.

We are supported by specialists from the Tees Valley Music Service who deliver classroom-based activities in Reception, Year 1 and 2. They also deliver whole class instrument sessions to Year 5 and 6. TVMS also offer tuition for a range of instruments to children in Key Stage 2.

All children are given the opportunity to perform at events both in school and the wider community throughout the school year.
