At Highcliffe, we highly value the importance that Religious Education has within school and its impact on building resilience and tolerance. Religious Education at Highcliffe is taught in line with the agreed syllabus provided by the local authority. High quality teaching and resources promote the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils. Children from year 1-6 are taught about a variety of different religions, as well as Christianity as the main religion within Great Britain. Children learn about religion, as well identifying what we can learn from religion.
Teaching from years 1-6 focuses on 6 key concepts which aim to deepen children’s understanding and knowledge; beliefs, teaching and sources, practices and way of life, expressing meaning, identify, diversity and belonging, meaning, purpose and truth, and finally value and commitments. These concepts are taught through ‘bigger picture’ questions to provoke critical thinking, as well as educational visits to different places of worship.
